Design Coordinator

 Oman |  12 - 15 years

Role Objective 

  • Responsible for Field design & Engineering, Interface between Site Construction, Site designers and HO Design office as required for various projects (Either in bidding or execution stage) for Oil and Gas & EPC.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Strategic 
    • Fetch design inputs to engineering projects. 
    • Must have worked as a single-point responsible at Site for construction Engineering supervision for a medium size oil/gas projects. 
    • Coordinate for all technical support as requested by HO (all disciplines). 
    • Interface between HO Design office, Site Design team and Site  construction team.
    • Supervise Site design team and send report to HODs and Engineering Manager on the planned Vs actual. 
    • Ensure Optimum Utilization of resources at site (Manpower, Devices and Transport).
    • Same to be reported periodically to the Line manager / EM. 
    • Provide engineering support to the construction / commissioning phases as necessary. 
    • Responsible for design validation for each job. 
    • The Design Coordinator shall liaise with the Site Construction Team during the Construction phase. 
    • Any clarifications / modifications required as per site conditions shall be conveyed to the Design Coordinator by the site team. 
    • Design Coordinator shall liaise with the Field Engineering Team / PE for any possible modifications in Design and incorporation into the current design. 
    • The feedback received from the Construction Team / FPD Coordinator shall be reviewed and incorporated in future designs as a part of the validation process. 
    • Review of customer specifications and process details and developing a thorough understanding of the project requirements. 
    • Make site visits with Team periodically to assess the site conditions and existing details and make a site visit report. 
    • Monitoring of Manhours planned Vs spent for each job to be recorded and reported. 
    • Align with the contract scope and notify and changes (Management of Change / variations) to HODs / Engineering manager. 
    • Attend any Client meeting for design part as and when instructed by Construction In charge and update HO.) with Client. 
    • Good interpersonal, communication and man management skills. Able to motivate a team within a matrix type organization 
    • Must have sound basic skills in relevant branch of engineering. 
    • Good knowledge of on-Site HSE Management. 
    • Computer literate. 
    • Familiar with design and engineering standards. Read and understand drawings. 
    • Must have abilities to keep track of a number of unrelated projects running simultaneously. 
    • PDO or Shell Group experience / equivalent is preferred.
    • Understand the requirements of the design quality system and meticulously ensure that these requirements are met and Undertake work in accordance with relevant Codes, Standards and Procedures. 
    • Ensure designers Produce presentable and accurate drawings, including a consistency check. Modification of existing drawings. 
    • Be aware of, and check, the interface between his own discipline and other disciplines at all stages of the design. 
    • Good knowledge on Company Standards, Shell Group DEP’s and International Standards. 
    • Full understanding of “non-standard” Vendor documentation and its interface points with Company engineering documents. 
    • Decisions are to be made based on acceptable quality for the custodian.
    • Actively train and encourage the development of Omani personnel to fulfil draftsperson and designer roles in the engineering team. (As applicable) 
    • Implement PDO , and where applicable, Client/Project policies and procedures. 
    • Checking and preparation of design/engineering documentation. 
    • Undertake surveys necessary to develop area of work assigned. 
    • Liaise with other disciplines, departments, project personnel, vendors, etc. 
    • Ensure all design drawings and documents are complete within the allocated hours and in accordance with the construction programme. 
    • Preparation of detailed drawings and documents to the requirements of Engineer. 
    • Ensure all discipline design interfaces are clearly defined. 
  2. Financial 
    • Meeting the project completion in stipulated duration consuming the man hours within estimated. 
    • Understanding of the project variations and reporting to the HODs/ EM. 
  3. Operational
    • Review/preparation of engineering documents for Pipeline/Flowline projects like Route Survey, Profile drawings, General arrangement, iso metrics, Site visit report, Inputs for Design basis, specifications, data sheets, material requisitions, Construction scope of work etc. 
    • Liaise with Site /HO on matters relating to design changes, Construction changes, quality and HSE and its functioning. 
    • Some level of field experience in construction & commissioning will be preferred. 
    • Responsible for preparation of Pipeline routing plan, alignment sheets, Station approaches, pipeline details and MTO for pipeline jobs. 
    • Familiar with various applicable international standard and design code like ASME B.31.8, B31.4, B31.3, API Standards, Shell Group’s DEP, and other industry applicable ASTM, ANSI, MSS-SP, ISO stds.
  4. People Management 
    • Provide assistance to the construction/fabrication team 
    • Controlling and guiding a team of designers 
  5. Other Responsibilities 
    • You shall be assigned with any other responsibility from time to time as per unit / project requirement. 

Qualification

  • Degree in a relevant engineering discipline Bachelor of Engineering.

Experience (in Years): 

  • Minimum of 12 years experience in design, specification, construction and general project engineering of oil and gas facilities, with a sound knowledge (min. 5 years experience) of project planning / construction and commissioning.
  • Should have experience on Field Engineering in Oil & Gas Projects.

Competencies/Skills

  • This position requires medium business understanding.
  • This position is site based
