Discipline Head / Manager - Pipeline - Design

Role Objective
Responsible for leading the Pipeline Department, Defining the competence levels for DA-2 and DA-3 in their discipline, reviewing these annually aligned with PDO requirements /assessment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic
    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering discipline.
    • Minimum of 20 years’ experience in design of Oil & Gas pipelines with different types of material (e.g. GRE, DSS, CS+PE lined, CS+FBE coated, LLRTP…etc.) with intensive experience in FEED and detailed design as minimum. 
    • Minimum of 8 years’ experience as discipline head.
    • Fully conversant with pipeline design codes (API 5L, API 6D, NACE, ASME B31.4, ASME 31.8,). Experience with metallic and non-metallic pipelines, hot tapping and stoppling of pipelines. 
  2. Operational
    • Able to challenge/evaluate robustness/completeness of pipeline related parts in concept study, i.e. pipeline hydraulics, route, material, protection, design conditions, initial thickness calculation, velocity, etc.
    • Able to perform pipeline thickness calculations including relevant checks for deferent pipeline materials, e.g. CS, CS-PE, GRE, DSS, etc.
    • Demonstrate solid understanding of road crossing calculations for deferent scenarios, i.e. deferent loadings, deferent pipeline materials and acceptance criteria.
    • Able to explain BVS requirement study.
    • Demonstrate technical understanding of pipeline upheaval buckling calculations, i.e. theoretical principle, when required, calculation methodology, inputs/outputs parameters, solutions, etc.
    • Able to review/perform hydrotest calculations for deferent pipeline materials
    • Demonstrate understanding in how to review pipeline stress analysis report, i.e. verify inputs/program setting and output results. And recommend solutions for unsafe designs.
    • Able to perform pipeline Hot-tap feasibility study and split tee design.
    • Able to explain requirements for GRE pipelines.
    • Demonstrate ability to challenge selection process inputs to optimize the best material option for Pipelines.
    • Demonstrate full understanding of pipeline construction activities sequence and able to review /Approve construction method statements.
    • Ability to ensure construction of CS, CS-PE, GRE, DSS pipeline is in compliance to relevant standards.
    • Demonstrate ability to manage and ensure trenchless crossing activities in compliance to relevant standards and safety requirements.
    • Demonstrate ability to ensure pipeline project is in full alignment with pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
    • Able to explain the requirements for Launcher/Receiver door maintenance and perform route cause analysis for door leak.
    • Demonstrate basic technical understanding of CIPS/DCVG inspection techniques
    • Able to explain smart plug applications in pipeline isolation and related specifications.
  3. People Management 
    • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders 
  4. Other Responsibilities
    • Shall be assigned with any other responsibility from time to time as per unit / project requirement within Office or Site office based.

Qualification:

  • Degree in mechanical/petroleum engineering. 
  • Shall have membership of an internationally accepted applicable professional Institute

Experience (in Years):  

  • Minimum of 20 years’ experience in design of Oil & Gas pipelines.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience as discipline head.
  • Experience with PDO and/or Shell Group projects and standards (DEP/SPs) is strongly preferred. 
  • Field experience in construction & commissioning strongly preferred

Competencies/Skills 

  • Proficiency in Auto Cad/PDO Earth/GIS tools
  • Knowledge of analysis software like CAESAR II.

Additional Qualification / Certification Required:

  • Shall have membership of an internationally accepted applicable professional Institute.
