ROLE OBJECTIVE
The Senior System Administrator will be responsible for the design, implementation, management, and maintenance of data center operations and systems, ensuring high levels of availability, security, and performance. The role requires expertise in data center infrastructure, server management, storage systems, and networking within enterprise environments.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Center Management:
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the data center, ensuring uptime, redundancy, and efficient functioning.
• Manage physical and virtual server infrastructure, including installation, configuration, and monitoring of servers and storage systems.
• Maintain the data center environment (cooling, power, etc.) to ensure optimal system performance.
• Perform routine inspections and monitoring of systems to ensure compliance with standards and protocols.
System Administration:
• Install, configure, and maintain operating systems (Linux/Windows) and application software across servers.
• Ensure secure configuration and administration of the data center servers, routers, and switches.
• Conduct patch management and system upgrades, ensuring security and system performance.
• Manage backup and recovery procedures for disaster recovery and business continuity.
Virtualization and Cloud Systems:
• Manage virtualized environments (VMware, Hyper-V, etc.) and support cloud infrastructure as needed.
• Collaborate on hybrid cloud strategies, integrating on-premise and cloud solutions to optimize business outcomes.
Networking and Security:
• Ensure secure connectivity within the data center and to external systems, managing firewalls, routers, and switches.
• Implement network access controls, perform regular audits, and manage user permissions.
• Monitor and secure network traffic, ensuring robust firewall and encryption protocols are in place.
Monitoring, Documentation and Reporting:
• Implement and manage monitoring systems (such as Nagios, Solar Winds, etc.) to monitor performance and detect issues before they impact operations.
• Proficiency in creating detailed documentation of the inbuilt system, network, processes, and policies at the architectural level, along with strong documentation skills, is preferred.
• Produce reports on system performance, downtime, and capacity planning for management review.
• Problem Resolution and Troubleshooting:
• Serve as a point of escalation for complex IT issues, providing advanced troubleshooting for hardware and software problems.
• Coordinate with vendors and service providers to resolve hardware failures or performance issues.
Team Leadership:
• Mentor and guide junior system administrators, providing technical leadership and training as needed.
• Collaborate with other IT teams, including network, storage, and security teams, to ensure system cohesiveness.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
Experience:
7-10 years of experience as a System Administrator or in a similar role, with a strong focus on data center management. o Proven experience in managing both physical and virtualized environments (VMware, Hyper-V, etc.).
